Do I need to take an entry test before I book?
No, you’ll be tested on arrival to make sure you’re in a class that’s just right for your level.

20 General English lessons

A structured English course with enough time to explore, join excursions and practise English outside of class


20 General English lessons +
8 Elective lessons

Choose 1 or 2 electives per week - Improve Grammar, Vocabulary, Pronunciation Skills, Communication Skills, English for University, Exam Preparation or Business English


20 General English lessons +
4 Elective lessons

Electives as above but choose 1 elective per week.*Australia and New Zealand only

2-4 lessons of general English will be in different formats, including guided lessons with the “My Embassy English” learning portal, lectures and project work.

Electives help you focus on an area of interest or improve in a particular area.  For example, if you really want to improve your grammar, choose the Grammar Practice elective.

Grammar Practice (Levels: Beginner - Advanced)
Improve your English grammar and learn to speak and write more accurately. We’ll start with an analysis of your grammar knowledge and follow a programme tailored to your level of understanding.  
Building Vocabulary (Levels: Beginner - Advanced)
Learn study techniques to help you increase, remember, store and retrieve new vocabulary. We’ll start with an analysis of your vocabulary strengths and help you increase and extend your vocabulary.
Perfect your Pronunciation (Levels: Beginner - Advanced)
Improve your ability to understand spoken English and be understood. Learn about the pronunciation problems of speakers of your mother tongue, and practise speaking more accurately and more fluently.
Communication Skills (Levels: Elementary - Advanced)
Improve your conversation skills, and learn what to say in everyday social situations at elementary and intermediate levels.  Expand your public speaking and presentation skills at intermediate and advanced levels.  You can book this option in advance
English for University - USA and Canada only (Levels: Intermediate - Advanced)
Preparing for university? Learn how to takes notes, write academic essays, and understand lectures and seminars. Develop the academic independent learning skills needed to succeed on any university degree programme.  You can book this option in advance
Exam Preparation Levels (Intermediate - Advanced)
Interested in taking IELTS or TOEFL? We’ll help you prepare with an analysis of the exam, exam skills training, and practice tests, to help you feel confi dent and ready on the day you take the exam.  Pre-bookable. You can book this option in advance
 Business Communication Skills  (Intermediate - Advanced)
Learn the language of business: the language of negotiations, of sales and marketing, of meetings, of presentations, and the business writing language of emails and reports. We’ll help you practise with business role-plays and business simulations. You can book this option in advance


Can I pre-book Electives?

With some courses you can book electives in advance (see table), but  for most courses, you confirm your elective choices after you arrive.

How many Electives can I take?

For Intensive courses  you have 8 Elective lessons per week and you can choose up to 2 electives. For Semi-Intensive courses (in Australia only) you have 4 Elective lessons and can choose 1 elective.  You can change your chosen Electives every 4 weeks.
